2021 Rookies In-House (Pre-K - 1st Grade)

2021 Rookies In-House

Eligibility:  Completed Preschool through First Grade.

Schedule:  Mondays and Wednesdays from June 1st to July 31st.  Week 1 is practice only.  Weeks 2-8 are one practice and one game.  Weather may necessitate changes to the schedule including possible game or practice on the weekends, week nights will not change.

Description:  Fundamental skills and rules of the game will be taught.  All batters will hit each inning but bases are cleared after three outs.  Teamwork and good sportsmanship, no matter the result of the game, will be emphasized.

In Grades: Pre-K to 1 for 2020-21 School year

2021 Minors Season (2nd and 3rd Grade)

Eligibility:  Completed Second Grade or Third Grade.

Schedule:  Practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays and games on Saturdays from June 2nd to August 8.  Weather may necessitate changes to the schedule including possible game or practice on the weekends, week nights will not change.

Description:  Fundamental skills and rules of the game will be taught.  Early season, coaches will pitch to the players, approximately half way thru the season, players will pitch and no walks are allowed.  After four balls a coach will come in and pitch.  Scores will be kept and records of the standings are kept.  Teamwork and good sportsmanship, no matter the result of the game, will be emphasized.

Third Graders interested in trying out for the 9U Traveling Team, please register in the section below.  If your player does not make the 9U Traveling Team, they will automatically be enrolled in the Minors program.

2021 9U Traveling Team (3rd Grade)

3rd Grade 9U ZVL Team

The team is open to anyone completing the 3rd grade in Spring 2021, and may be open to those completing the 2nd grade in Spring 2021 if registration numbers allow.

Player evaluations will be held if registration numbers are at 12 or more.  Evaluations will be held the week of April 1st (date subject to change based on facility availability).

Players registered that do not make the Traveling team will play in the In-House Minors program.  

Eligibility:  Completed Third Grade.

Schedule:  The traveling team will compete in either the Zumbro Valley League (ZVL) or Southern Minny League.  Game schedule will depend on the determined league.  In the past, game schedules have consisted of 8 double headers (16 games) with half of the games as home games and half on the road, within an hour driving distance.  Game nights will vary.  The team will also compete in the league end-of-the-season tournament.  And may also play in one away tournament and a home Byron tournament, as budget and schedule allow.  In addition to games, the team will practice twice a week (one practice could be on weekends).

Description:  Fundamental skills and rules of the game will be taught as we continue to develop players.  Pitchers may pitch up to 3 innings per night. Scores and records will be kept.  Teamwork and good sportsmanship will be emphasized no matter the result of the game.  More information is available under the “Documents” section of the BYBA website.  

Cost:  $125.  Fee includes $100 In-House Minors fee and $25 fee charged if the player makes the Traveling team.

Players not selected to the MBL Traveling Team will play on a traveling team which will compete with teams from the area. Please see the 10U traveling guidelines in the document section of our website for questions about the make-up of the teams.

2020 13U (7th Grade) Traveling Teams (BYBA board reserves the right to make changes to the GUIDELINES)

Eligibility: ZVL / Babe Ruth/ Southern Minny open to players who have completed Seventh Grade. Open to players that will not reach 14 years old before May 1, 2021.  

All Players will be evaluated if registration numbers are at 12 or more. Players will be divided based on skill and placed in to a league depending upon coaching.  

Evaluations will be held the week of April 1st (date subject to change based on facility availability).

Schedule:  Game schedule will depend on the determined league.  Game schedules can consist of both home and road games (usually within an hour driving distance), and may include doubleheaders.  Game nights will vary.  

Each team may compete in weekend tournaments to be determined as budget allows.    

In addition to games, the team will practice 2-3 times a week (one practice could be on weekends).    

Schedule subject to change based on COVID restrictions.   

Description:  The 13U traveling teams are based on ability and playing time is granted accordingly. The coach may choose to reduce a player’s game time if they are not regularly attending practices or for other reasons.  Fundamental skills and rules of the game will be taught as we continue to develop players.  Teamwork and good sportsmanship will be emphasized no matter the result of the game.  

It is expected that players who choose to play a second sport make baseball practices and games their first priority. Plan on spending 2-5 nights per week at the baseball field. Also, additional expenses parents may incur for hotel/gas should be expected from traveling to and from games or playing in tournaments.

Practices will be held approximately twice per week (~1 ½ - 2hrs hours per practice).

Cost:  $125  Base traveling fee of $125.  An additional fee may be charged depending upon the league chosen.

This camp will be run by Coach Pat Splinter.  He has coached at many levels within the BYBA and Byron Baseball program, currently coaching High School B/C Squad and in the summer, VFW/JR. Legion.  He has been certified by USA Baseball in Coaching and for Catcher Development and is a member of MSHSBCA (Minnesota State High School Baseball Coaches Association).

  • Within the proficiency of the game lies a natural progression of skills and drills that need to be mastered before becoming an accomplished catcher, hence we will start with the basics and progress from there.
  • “With all truth being told, as the Byron High School’s catchers coach, it’s a great and fun time for me to start working with the players at the younger ages.  It’s also a good time for the players to learn the expectations of being a catcher in our program and the culture we promote.” – Coach Pat, Byron Baseball Program - COMMIT, COMPETE, AND CARE!  

 

Camp 1 – April 18, 2021; 1 pm – 4 pm; Location -   Byron Middle School Upper Field                    

Introduction to catching: Introduction to catching, receiving and blocking/recovery.  

The purpose of this camp is to introduce the players to the catching position.  During this introductory camp, the players will learn the mental aspects of catching, different basic stances used by the catcher and the basics on receiving / presenting and blocking / recovering the ball.  Stri-ball receiving and framing will be emphasized in this session.  

Camp 2 - April 25, 2021; 1 pm – 4 pm; Location -   Byron Middle School Upper Field            

Introduction to catching: throwing, fielding and catching a bullpen session.  We will briefly go over the basic information from the Camp 1 and build on those skills.  In Camp 2 we’ll incorporate throwing thus completing the block / recover / throwing circuit.  You will learn various footwork techniques for throwing, in addition to the proper hand/ball exchange and arm slot that catchers utilize.  Additionally we will learn how to correctly field bunts, pop fly balls, positioning yourself for throws and setting up / executing plays at the plate (tags and put outs) in a safe manner. Finally, you will learn the benefits of catching a bullpen session and how we prepare for a bullpen/game.

 

Camp 3 – May 2, 2021; 1 pm – 3 pm; Location -   Byron Middle School Upper Field              

Elite catching skills and advance approaches.  We will go over the skills learned in Camps 1 and 2 by performing numerous drills.  Camp 3 will teach proper stretching to prevent injuries and maximize performance.  We will also learn proper stretching and pregame warm up, advanced techniques for improving balance, new stances (kickstand), back pick throw’s, pick off throws to all bases, executing the slide and throw for wild pitches with runners on third base, work on improving pop times and calling pitches.  

  • Coaches and parents are welcome to stay to learn drills.
  • Waiver MUST be completed via BYBA website.
  • Private lessons are available for $30 per hour

BYBA will be holding a FREE Coaching Clinic in tandem with Spring Training.  If you plan on coaching baseball this summer or would like to learn more about coaching baseball, please plan on attending the time slot that corresponds with the program below.

Registration for Youth Players interested in being an Umpire for the 2021 BYBA Season.  You must attend the BYBA umpire clinic, which will be scheduled closer to the start of the season and complete concussion training.  Umpires are paid on a per game basis.

2021 5000 Swing Club


Program will start May 1, 2021 and conclude August 31, 2021.  Participants are challenged to complete 5,000 swings within the time frame.  All participants must register before May 1st. 

Swings can be completed with any type of training (soft-toss, T work, rear-toss, front toss, live BP, muscle-memory swings, etc).  There will be a reward for completing the challenge.

2021 Traveling Coaches Application

If you want to coach a BYBA traveling team this season, you must complete this application and agree to be interviewed by the BYBA traveling committee.  Before the interview, you must complete concussion training, if you haven't taken it within the last 3 years (documentation of training completion is required).  You must also have a 1.5 hour practice plan prepared for your interview.  You must also attend the BYBA Coaching Seminar, date and more information about the seminar will be sent out later.  Registration closes on March 15, interviews will happen the first week of April and coaches will be selected by April 11th.  A background check will be required if you are selected to coach and will be need to be done before you work with your team.  BYBA will pay for the background check.  If any problems are uncovered by the background check, you will not be allowed to coach.
